(3/11/25) Update Regarding Student Pedestrian Accident
Dear MASD families,
I wanted to follow up regarding the incident in which a MASH student was struck by a vehicle while walking to school this morning (original email sent around 9 a.m. today). The student was crossing at the intersection of Broad Street and Williams Grove Road when a driver, who had been stopped on Broad, began making a left turn onto Williams Grove and struck the student.
As shared earlier, the student was conscious and transported for medical evaluation. Out of respect for their privacy, we are not sharing further details at this time.
Our thoughts remain with the student and their family, the driver and their family, and everyone affected by this incident as they navigate the path to recovery.
We appreciate the prompt response and compassionate care of emergency personnel, as well as the cooperation and support of our school community. As shared earlier, we continue to work with local authorities as they review the circumstances of this incident. Additionally, we will work with local law enforcement to assess safety needs at that intersection.
We recognize that incidents like this can be concerning for students and families. If your child ever needs support, our school counselors are available to talk with them. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you feel they would benefit from additional resources.
As always, student safety is our top priority. While the student was using a designated crosswalk at the time of the incident, this serves as an important reminder for all of us—students, families, and drivers—to remain extra cautious near school zones, stay alert, and follow traffic safety guidelines to help keep everyone safe.
Thank you for your support, and please continue to keep everyone involved in this incident in your thoughts.
