Welcome To Our District!
Mechanicsburg Area School District is located on the west shore of the Harrisburg metropolitan area. The district encompasses 16.1 square miles, including Mechancisburg and Shiremanstown boroughs and Upper Allen Township. The communities are basically residential with a total population of approximately 26,000. Many residents are employed in professional business fields in the greater Harrisburg Area. Housing is priced in the moderate to expensive range with both established and new resident areas available. There is easy access to a number of interstate highways (I81, I83 and I76); Exit 236 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike is in the school district. The area is served by the Harrisburg International Airport and Amtrak.
About the Communications Department
Mechanicsburg Area School District has a responsibility to inform the public of the actions and the services provided by our schools. We are committed to doing this by providing quality, accurate, and timely information to the community on a regular basis. Our Communications Office provides communications, marketing, public relations, and website support to the District’s schools, the Administration Office, and associated organizations.
In brief, the Communications Office:
- Communicates information about the district, schools, students, School Board, staff, programs, activities, initiatives, events, and accomplishments, among other information, through various channels to stakeholders including the community and media.
- Assists with the preparation and distribution of internal communications.
- Handles media inquiries, requests for publicity, and advertising.
- Issues press releases and advisories, and connects members of the media with the appropriate district personnel.
- Oversees the district website and assists with school website maintenance.
- Manages the District's Facebook page.
- Provides a photographer for school and district events, initiatives, and programs.
- Creates and publishes printed materials including, but not limited to, brochures, calendars, newsletters, recruitment materials, signage, and displays.
- Designs and sends our electronic newsletter, Wildcat e-Connect.
- Reviews submissions for, and maintains, the district's online Community Bulletin Board.
- Assists with the planning and coordination of special district events.
